My name is Judy Cristante and I was born and raised on the traditional territory of the W̱SÁNEĆ People. I offer my deepest gratitude to their Nation as this is where my love for nature first began. I also extend a heartfelt miigwetch to the Lək̓ʷəŋən People, on whose territory I have lived during my undergraduate studies and where I continue to call home.

I am a proud woman of mixed ancestry, named after my Indigenous grandmother, Judy Bourne. On my maternal side, I am Cree, Métis, and Ojibwe, and on my paternal side, I carry Italian and English heritage. I grew up as an only child, yet I am grateful to have friends who have become my chosen family.

From an early age, I was immersed in the natural world - walking through lush forests with my Oma and Opa, exploring ever-changing ocean views with my father, and uncovering hidden gems with my mother. These experiences sparked a lifelong fascination with the landscapes of British Columbia, which now inspires my true passion in art.

My work celebrates the beauty, texture, and vibrant colours of the natural world. From the dense forests of Vancouver Island to the sparkling coastlines of the Sunshine Coast, from the vast valleys of the Okanagan to the radiant hues of a BC coastal sunset, each piece is inspired by the landscapes I have explored. Every creation reflects my curiosity, wonder, and deep connection to this land.

Living on Vancouver Island has allowed me to develop a deep connection to this place as both an artist and an explorer. It is a land full of inspiration, adventure, and stories waiting to be told. I honour and give thanks to the local Indigenous Nations for their enduring stewardship of this breathtaking territory - a home that continues to fuel my creativity and passion.
